Of Peeps: Tournament: 18 by =tokiyaensui:icontokiyaensui:

   Wolfe was in a snowy forest. His breath fogged in front of him as he trotted through the woods, not knowing where he was going but knowing that something called him.
   “Ah. There you are,” came a voice. Wolfe skidded to a halt, looking around. A silver wolf walked into sight. “It’s about time you showed up. Two of your friends have already unlocked their powers.”
   “You’re—” Wolfe began, then stopped. “Where am I?”
   “You are inside your own spirit,” said the wolf. Wolfe paused for a moment.
   “Then, Sqwid’s mountain? And Ashes told me about being underwater.”
   “Those were their spirits. Your animal spirits have nothing to do with your own. Even without us, you would have eventually gained access to this place. This is where you gain your true power. As you know, your speed is granted to you through me. But your real power is all you.”
   “Right. And how exactly do I get that power?” Wolfe raised an eyebrow.
   “Keep walking,” said the wolf, and trotted off. Wolfe ran after it. He ran and ran, but to no avail. Then he stopped.
   He had come to a beach covered in snow. As he walked out he saw that the entire expanse of water had been frozen solid. Even huge waves had been frozen, creating gigantic caverns of ice.
   An icicle broke from the tree above him and embedded itself, point down, in the snow. Wolfe picked it up and looked at it.
   “Sweet.”
   It’s time. You have unlocked your final power. Use it now and save yourself. Your Ice will be nigh indestructible.
~~~
   Storm was tense. He seemed to be in a dry, grassy plain. Clouds were converging over his head.
   “So. You’re here,” came a voice to his right. Storm whipped around to find a cougar looking at him. It blended almost flawlessly with the surroundings.
   “I’m where?”
   “Here.”
   “Where’s here?”
   “Inside yourself.”
   Storm shook his head violently. “What? Is this my version of Sqwid’s mountain?”
   “Now you get it. This is your spirit, your power.”
   “An African plain is my power?” Storm asked.
   “No. That is,” said the cougar, and looked over at a lone tree. As he spoke, a shaft of lightning hit the tree, blowing it into flaming pieces. Soon, a large portion of the plain was alight. Storm backed away from the fire.
   “No!” snarled the cougar. “Don’t you get it?”
   “Get what? I’m trying so save myself!” The cougar leapt behind him and pushed him into the fire with its head.
   Storm fell forward onto the flaming grass. He tried frantically to get up. As he rolled away, he saw that he hadn’t been burned. Not so much as a hair on his arm had been singed.
   “...I get it.”
   It’s time. You have unlocked your final power. Use it now and save yourself. You’ll find that you can do just about anything imaginable with your Fire.
~~~
   Both boys glowed violently as their blades met. The sheer amount of opposing spiritual energy sent a shockwave throughout the stadium and threw both fighters across the stage.
   Wolfe thrust his blade into the ground as it flashed under him and Storm transformed his hands to stop his skid across the ground.
   They stood up as the crowd went nuts. Wolfe emanated a pale blue and silver aura while Storm’s was an incredible display of red and yellow. Both felt the need to experiment.
   Storm snapped his fingers and a ball of flame appeared in his hand. Wolfe took a different tack. Remembering the words spoken to him, he took his blade and covered it with ice, thinking it would be much easier to channel his new ability through his Wato.
   The clock showed seven minutes left.
   “Let’s try this!” said Storm, holding out his hand. A torrent of fire blasted from his palm toward Wolfe.
   Inexplicably calm, Wolfe raised his blade and let the fire hit it. The blaze diverged at the edge of the blade and several audience members had to duck for cover as flames licked at their seats.
   Storm grinned and stopped the fire. He squinted into the distance to see the damage. The crowd seemed to be smoldering but Wolfe stood unscathed.
   “My turn.” Wolfe took his blade and swung it in an arc. A crescent shaped blade of ice flew toward Storm at an alarming speed. James sidestepped the lethal object and watched the audience run for shelter again. As soon as Wolfe released control of the ice, it disintegrated into the air.
   Storm tried channeling a jet of fire through his rapier, but Wolfe swatted it aside and sped toward Storm. The two met in an explosion of energy. To the observer, it seemed that a sphere of undulating red and blue light had surrounded them. One could almost see the outline of a wolf and cougar circling each other around the boys.
   The clock showed five minutes left. Wolfe attacked with arms, legs, and blade all coated in ice. Storm retaliated with baseball sized fireballs and a flaming blade.
   It seemed that this fight would go on forever.
~~~
   The scientist was watching the fight avidly. The two boys were showing incredible power not unlike the two girls before them. It was delicious to watch. Just then, the door opened behind him.
   “What do you want?” he snapped.
   “There’s been an intrusion, sir,” said the guard, his eyes wandering to the TV screen.
   “Show me.” The guard changed the channel on the TV to show security footage of a brown haired boy wandering toward the commentator’s room. The scientist recognized the boy as the one with the huge metal backpack who had found the Armstrong cannon. It was Radar.
   “We’re not sure how he got in here, but we’re scouring the grounds. I’ve got the squad captain on the line.” He paused for a second, pulling out a walkie-talkie. “Captain? Captain. Answer me.” Nothing, then a crunch.
~~~
   Spirit crushed the walkie-talkie under her foot and looked around at the men on the ground.
   “Radar?” she said into her watch. “We’ve been found out. Get out of there.”
   “In a minute. I’m almost done,” came the voice.
   “Done with what?”
   “I tracked the wireless signal from the bombs to the room where they’re remotely detonated. I’m just about to kill the power in that room only,” explained Radar.
   “While you’re doing that, I’ve got some news.”
   “Do tell.”
   Spirit grinned. “I’ve got my element.”
